meteor misses east coast

wow: from my view, the meteor hit somewhere near the potomac in charles county at about 12:40pm on valentine's day this week, but it actually fell into the ocean...this time...yeah: i saw it while driving on route 301 on the harry nice bridge leaving virginia, heading into maryland...of course: no one believed me, but i saw what i saw...and what i saw was something (fairly) large...on fire...headed toward the ground at a high rate of speed...sooo glad i am not alone!

new year's weekend on the chesapeake bay

new year's weekend on the chesapeake bay was a cold one...
but we all survived. the wind is still gusting to +50 npr and much damage has been done to properties facing the potomac river. it has been so difficult walking the dogs in 20°f with these crazy artic winds, especially with miss chase being 15 or 16 (she is a stray so we dont have an exact date of birth), but we did it...and it is done.

storms roll through

it got up to 80 degrees here today: crazy but great! the inevitable storms rolled through this evening though, cooling it down to 69!

a stormy weekend

torrential downpours were followed by wind, leaving this result at the end of the day.

kingfisher blues

i have been working outside all weekend: not in the garden, on my computer. i have revamped my herban elements etsy shop; working on the design options one; haven't started on my dawanda site; blogged about a motorcycle the mister is threatening to buy; talked about the oysters we ate; raved about an amazing artist i stumbled upon, and bragged about my working conditions. all the while, the kingfisher has been chattering about! at one point, two were dancing (?), no, probably fighting, but whatever, it was so cool. i love belted kingfishers: they dive into the water, live in holes in the ground, wear fashionable accessories...and they look like mini pterodactyls!

had to work this weekend...

this was my office today. not bragging...just saying.

went to the beach today...saw these footprints: pterodactyl? no...blue heron, i hope!

webEcoist is a really cool website that covers "sustainable living, green design and environmental oddities" in a good, not freakish, way. earlier this week they had a gorgeous posting entitled "45 colorful uninhabited places to see before you die": maybe some are near you, or you have already been there so you can cross them off of your bucket list. check it out! on the theme of our lovely colorful world: i shot the photo above on my lame iphone camera last friday night looking up the potomac river on the virginia side of the chesapeake bay.

heuchera is hot for shade

im in the beginning stages of plant selection for the "river bed" garden that actually is a storm drainage ditch for potomac river overflow: this is part of my overall rain garden project. i have ordered a large quantity of heuchera 'oakington jewel from sunshine farm & gardens in west virginia. i love the heavily veined foilage and think the silvery leaf color will shine in this shaded garden!
